To assist current and transitioning farmers engaged in eco-agriculture in Puerto Rico to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria and to help return farms to productivity and profitability by providing and facilitating access to the infrastructure, supplies, tools and services needed to reestablish a sustainable food economy for the people of Puerto Rico.
How WE do it
We give grants to aid Farmers with the following needs:
*Services or labor for clearing storm damage and restoring farm road and field access.
*Rebuilding infrastructure ie. hoop houses, barns, packing sheds, fences, etc.
*Replanting, establishing nurseries for plants, purchasing seeds and plants.
*Repair and replacement of farming tools or machinery needed to return to production.
*Restocking lost or damaged fertilizer or other materials needed to return to production.
Though we do not monitor, regulate or certify any farm operations’ claims regarding organic or sustainable practices, we will only award funding to those materials and tools that can be used in organic or sustainable agriculture, ie. we will not pay for the purchase of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or GMO plants or seeds.
Wherever and whenever possible we will use Farmer to Farmer contacts to identify needs, provide assistance and monitor effective use of grants. This will promote beneficial ties, information sharing and resource coordination between Farmers both in PR and between PR and mainland Farmers.
We will encourage and prioritize the purchase of locally sourced tools, inputs and infrastructure.
What We've Achieved
- We have formed a non-profit that will help address the need in Puerto Rico.
- With your help, we can improve the local food supply and help many PR farmers improve their quality of life.
